Protect Your Jewelry from the Unexpected – Part 2

natural disaster

Choosing to Protect Your Jewelry

Life is all about choices. What if you choose not to properly prepare your jewelry (or yourself) for emergency evacuation? Or what if you do have everything planned out…but a truly unexpected disaster (Zombie apocalypse, anyone?) strikes at some crazy, odd hour, and you forget to grab your jewelry. After all, your life and the lives of your loved ones are more important than any material possessions during a natural disaster. Including your prized jewelry pieces.

So, the worst case scenario has become…reality. Your reality. Now what? Will something like your homeowners insurance policy cover the loss of your jewelry in the event of a natural disaster? Or do you need a dedicated jewelry insurance policy to recoup your losses?

“Acts of God” – Natural Disasters and You

Here at Zillion, we’re in the business of jewelry insurance. And in the insurance business, there’s a long-standing, quite-interesting term for many of the unfortunate natural hazards and disasters we’ve touched on here:

Acts of God. Or, in Latin, Vis Major. Meaning “Superior Force.” The actual clause in an insurance policy is often referred to as “force majeure”. No matter what language you choose here, this phrase refers to “an accident or other natural event caused without human intervention that could not have been prevented by reasonable foresight or care.” Well, guess what? It’s quite common for insurance companies and policies to limit–or outright exclude–coverage for something like a flood, earthquake, fire, or tsunami. For example, US flood insurance flows through the National Flood Insurance Program under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Some circumstances are NEVER covered by insurance—included dedicated jewelry insurance policies. This Rather Terrible and Scary Short List is more like “Awful Acts of Humanity,” and includes damage or loss suffered due to extra awful events like war. Nuclear hazard. Oh and, God forbid, nuclear war.

(Though, in that case, jewelry is probably the last thing you’ll have to worry about. If any of us are even around to worry about…anything.)

I think we’ve covered enough about what’s not covered. Now, back to some positive and good news!

Thank God for Zillion Jewelry Insurance!

So what IS covered with a Zillion engagement ring insurance policy? The short answer is: a lot. Including accidental loss. Theft. Accidental damage. Mysterious disappearance. And, yes, many unavoidable and unfortunate natural disasters. Let’s take a closer look at each of these occurrences and incidences, point by point.

  • Accidental loss: Examples here include a honeymoon trip (or just time at home) where your beautiful, beloved diamond engagement ring slips down the drain—never to be seen again. A true tragedy, for sure. Your Zillion insurance policy covers the complete cost of a replacement ring.
  • Theft: Someone broke into your home, and, unfortunately, the thieves swiped your prized wedding ring. Rest assured, your dedicated jewelry insurance policy covers the complete cost of replacement here, also.
  • Mysterious disappearance: You don’t actually know what happened to your engagement ring. Crazy, right? There’s no way your jewelry insurance policy with Zillion will cover…this kind of thing, is there? Well, actually, yes. Even if you don’t know what the heck actually happened to it, your ring is still covered.
  • Accidental damage: You chipped the diamond on your wedding ring. Maybe you started some intensive home improvement work and forgot to remove it. Or, maybe your gold band bent during an accident. Or, even worse, the entire gem popped out of its setting. You are covered under each and every one of these instances. Completely!
  • Natural disasters: Fire. Flood. Hurricane. Tornado. Zombie apocalypse. Don’t worry. We’ve got your back. Including complete coverage of jewelry replacement or repair. Unless, of course, the zombies took you out. Sorry, but we can’t help you…there.

The Concierge Claims Difference

If you do lose jewelry to unfortunate danger or natrual disaster and you do have a dedicated jewelry insurance policy with Zillion, you can rest assured that you’re in good hands now. Really, really good hands. Skilled, capable, and experienced hands (some of which even sport a sparkling diamond ring). We like to call it the concierge claims difference. And it really does make a difference. A big difference.

Concierge claims means that we handle anything and everything involving the replacement or repair of your jewelry piece or pieces. Working closely with your chosen jeweler, we make sure to always keep you updated and in the loop—every step of the way. We will never burden you with anything cumbersome or stressful like providing proof of item ownership, considering the natural disaster itself is stressful enough. We won’t ask you to negotiate a cash settlement. And we won’t ever even request any deductible from you. That’s not how it works with Zillion – or, more accurately, when you let us work on your behalf.

Concierge claims service means fast response times from Zillion’s dedicated claims team. And when we say fast, we mean fast. As in, lightning-quick. Well, maybe that’s not the best term to use, in light of this scary subject. But you catch our drift (not hurricane-force winds, either!). Basically, Zillion starts your jewelry replacement (or repair) right away, often within 24 hours of submitting your claim. Why not learn more by visiting the Zillion site and getting your fast, easy custom quote today?
