6 Geeky Wedding Proposals We Totally Love

People may think that just because we’re in the insurance business—specifically the engagement ring insurance business—means that we aren’t interested in the stories behind the reason for those rings… but that’s just not true. Just like anyone else, we’re a sucker for a good love story. One thing we especially love is hearing about the clever and creative ways people pop the question. We’re also a tech-based company, so we’ll be honest: We’re also interested in all things geeky, nerdy, dorky… you get the point.

We started to wonder what happens when geeks meet, fall in love, and get engaged. We searched far and wide for the geekiest wedding proposals we could find and, well… Let’s just say the internet did not disappoint. Check out these 6 geeky wedding proposals that we totally love.

1: Forever Linked

Since the first video game bounced onto the screen (it was Pong, by the way), people across the world have been enamored with them. After Nintendo made its way into homes everywhere, we were especially hooked! The first “Legend of Zelda” game was released in Japan on February 1st, 1986. Nintendo gaming platforms have since released many versions, and everyone’s favorite Hylian + princess team have come a long way.

It’s obvious that Zelda and Link have secured spaces in the hearts of many—as evident in this adorable proposal inspired by the “Legend of Zelda” Nintendo video games:

2: I Choose You!

Pokémon is the romanized contraction of the Japanese brand “Pocket Monsters.” It first appeared in 1996 as a video game and has since seen eight generations of video games. What started as a series of games has exploded into toys, clothes, movies, and yes, the famous augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go!

For aspiring Pokémon trainers, what better way to enchant your perfect catch than with this cute Pokémon-themed proposal—including a Pokémon repurposed into an engagement ring box?

3: The Unbreakable Vow

It’s a magical fandom that needs no introduction... but we’ll introduce it anyway. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (or, if you are overseas, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) was first published in the UK in June of 1997 and has enchanted generations of readers ever since. From the books to the movies; from the theme parks to the spin-off films that have come from the original series, fans across the world show their enthusiasm for this spellbinding series—even working it into their proposals and weddings!

Book destruction aside, we’re absolutely Moony over this Harry Potter-themed proposal. We especially love the clever use of the “Unbreakable Vow” chapter. After all this time? Always.

4: Engage

The original Star Trek series—created by Gene Rodenberry and starring William Shatner as Captain James T. (the “T” is short for “Tiberius”) Kirk debuted on T.V. on September 8th, 1966. It brought science fiction to the mainstream and even made history as the first T.V. show to feature an interracial kiss. Since the first Star Trek show, there have been eight other iterations—including Star Trek: The Next Generation, which aired from 1987–1994 and starred Patrick Stewart as USS Enterprise captain Jean-Luc Picard.

This thoughtful Star Trek: The Next Generation fan made the most of the time he and his girlfriend had during a photo op at Austin Wizard World Con with the cast by proposing! (You can read actor Wil Wheaton’s recap of what happened that day here. It’s real cute.) Love: The final frontier.

5: Everything is Awesome

🎵 Everything is cool when you’re part of a team! 🎵

Back in 2016, a man named Ben took his girlfriend Kirsten to the movies. What Kirsten didn’t know is that before the feature film, there was a VERY special trailer in store for her! We love creativity, and this LEGO® fan certainly fits that bill.

6: It's A-Me! Your Fiancé!

In case you need more evidence that video games have permeated every part of popular culture, here is another example. The Super Mario Brothers franchise began as a 1983 arcade game called Mario Bros. In 1985, the first Super Mario Bros. game for Nintendo was released in Japan and the rest, as they say, is history.

This Super Mario superfan decided to deck out his living room to propose to his fiance. Looks like his princess was NOT in another castle!
